Do I need skills or experience to volunteer in Nepal?

Are the programs only for international volunteers?

Do I need to speak English to volunteer in Nepal?

Yes, basic English is required. English does not need to be your first language. You will also receive basic Nepali language training during orientation.

Do I need to speak Nepali?

No. However, learning basic Nepali phrases will greatly improve your experience. We provide language lessons during orientation.

Do I need a visa to volunteer in Nepal?

Yes. Volunteers use a tourist visa, available on arrival at Kathmandu airport. Visas are issued for up to 90 days and can be extended to a maximum of 150 days per year.

Accommodation ranges from urban homestays to basic rural housing. Meals typically include traditional Nepali food such as dal bhat, vegetables, rice, and lentils. Special dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice.

Can I take time off to travel or trek while volunteering?

Yes. Many volunteers take breaks to trek or explore Nepal. We support responsible travel and can help coordinate leave during long-term placements.
